About This Item
Sydney: Hachette Australia, 2012. New ed.. Paperback octavo, very good condition, black & white text-photos, frontispiece, bottom corner slightly creased rear cover, minor edgewear. 366 pp. The Kokoda campaign of 1942 is one of the classic battles in Australian military history. This is the story of Damien Parer who took the photos that became our history, and which captured the Anzac legend. He served his apprenticeship on 'Forty Thousand Horsemanâ (Middle East). He then became chief photographer for the army covering the Australian campaign in Tobruk, Greece, Syria, and New Guinea. His work in the Middle East and North Africa gained him recognition, but it was closer to home - in Timor and New Guinea - that so many of his classic images were taken. His documentary 'Kokoda Front Line!' was the first Australian film to win an Oscar. This biography brings to life a passionate, brave and very skilled Australian. (New edition, 2012. Originally published with different title by Lothian in 1994 and 2004.).
