Octavo, vi, 154pp. Gray paperback, title printed on spine. Faint shelf wear. Full number line on copyright page. This copy appears unread. Inscribed on the half-title: "For The Motts, with best wishes. Dean Acheson. August 1971." A scarce copy of this work, signed just two months before Acheson's death in October of 1971. Dean Acheson (1893-1971) served as Secretary of State for President Harry S. Truman. He was instrumental in defining foreign policy for the United States during the Cold War. Acheson's memoir, Present at the Creation, won the Pulitzer Prize for history in 1970.
