About This Item

Maurizio Martino Publishing, Cambridge, 1993 reprint of 1940 first edition. Stated to be limited to 250 copies. Cloth, 4to,. x, 414 pp. 7279 entries. Arranged chronologically, with an author/anonymous title index. From the introduction: "Wherever feasible, imprint data have been incorporated, as well as size and pagination. Likewise, references have been appended to items regarding which there are questions of authorship or other uncertainties... The entries have been prepared in fuller style than is typical of the library short-title catalogue, since our purpose has been to indicate as well as may be the content of the piece, not merely its bibliographical characteristics. Agiin, content notes have been added to entries whenever the title of the piece was non-revealing; and frequently comments by Professor Foxwell or Mr. Higgs have been inserted where such notes would be especially helpful to the student..The contents of the Kress collection are displayed in full for the time-period covered, the years through 1776, even though the definitions of economics and business as derivable from our various entries may not always agree with those of prospective users. Professor Foxwell interpreted economics in a broad fashion, and displayed an interest in the background of economic theory that led him into areas which, to the strict constructionist, might appear inappropriate. Such Foxwell items range from political philosophy to ideal commonwealths, and trench upon such other categories as ethics, political history, proceedings of Parliament, books of travel, collections of statutes upon specific business or economic subjects, and disquisitions upon feudal law..Beyond such legal treatises and compilations of statutes as came to us in the Foxwell purchase, we have tended to list in the present catalogue only such books as dealt with commercial and maritime law, or with such more specialized economic and business subjects as money and bills of exchange, taxes, transportation, and poor relief. Fine.
