About This Item
Paris: L'Imprimerie Chaix, 1897. First edition. Print. Fine. Lovely image of a couple examining an Art Nouveau print. This image speaks to the public's passion for posters at the end of the 19th century. To appeal to this passion, "Les Maitres de L'Affiche" was published by Jules Cheret. Cleverly, the reduced-size fine art poster lithographs were a more manageable size. The famous images of the Belle Epoque, 1895-1900, were offered by subscription and never released as bound books; approximately 240 were done over a 60-month period and reflected the best of the exuberant poster art movement that swept Paris at the time before W.W.I. Image size varies on paper 11 1/4 x 15 1/2" with the blind stamp in the lower right corner.
