Third work THE ART OF CONTENTMENT- engraved frontispiece, (viii), 218 pages, printed title torn at the bottom corner with slight loss. Fourth work THE LIVELY ORACLES GIVEN TO US- engraved title, 228 pages (numeration faulty but complete). A very attractive and very good contemporary binding. Ownership inscriptions from the 17th-19th century on the endpapers. Richard Allestree or Allestry was an English Royalist churchman and provost of Eton College from 1665.Early (fifth) edition of this classic instructional book for women, with engraved frontispiece, in beautiful contemporary calf-gilt. It s been bound with three other major works of the period.
