Cincinnati, Ohio: Hitchcock and Walden, 1870. First Edition. Decorative Leather. Good +. 12 issues bound in one volume without covers or advertisements. Quarto, 11" tall, vol. 1: 476 pages and vol. 2: 476 pages with intertextual illustration, plus 19 steel plate engravings (1 missing); brown 3/4 leather over brown cloth. This is a good plus volume over all, hinges broken with front cover and spine loose, internal binding solid, exterior corners rubbed, spine leather rubbed at hinges and coming loose at front hinge, and a small hole in the front cover upper corner that is not evident in the interior; interior very good, clean, occasional minor foxing, paper lightly yellowed, internal binding solid and a previous owner's inscription on the front endpaper. This is the regular publisher edition. It was common for publishers to print such Very good -volumes from the original periodical plates before melting them down to make new plates.
