This book records the first major retrospective exhibition of the work of Brtain's foremost battle painter of the 19th century, the first devoted entirely to Lady Butler's paintings since her death in 1933. Dr Germaine Greer has written of Elizabeth Butler, 'Many modern painters would envy her success; she is perhaps the last European painter to capture the imagination of the masses'.
