Privately Printed, 1928. 365pp. Octavo. An early pirated edition, limited to 1500 copies. Light brown/pinkish paper covered boards with a cream coloured title label with black lettering affixed to the spine. Edges roughly trimmed. Minor rubbing along the edges of the boards; mild fading to the spine. Internally clean and tight. Marked as number 685 out of an edition of 1500 copies on the limitation page. An attractive copy. An early, possibly the first(?), pirated edition of one of the seminal suppressed books of the 20th century, privately printed in Italy to circumscribe censorship in Britain, where it was not published in unexpurgated form until 1960. This version very closely resembles the first edition in both look and textual errors, with the only noticable difference being that there is no phoenix stamped to the front board, the amount printed--1500 copies instead of 1000--and the fact that it has not been signed by Lawrence. 1928
