About This Item

Hamish Hamilton, London., 1980. First edition. Oblong format. Unpaginated. Nineteen colour plates and pictorial title-page by Edward Bawden. Laminated boards. Originally written in the early 1930s, the scrapbook containing the story and illustrations was hidden by Bawden at the bottom of his well, to be retrieved only "after the Germans had retreated". It was almost thirty years before Bawden remembered the package. Fine in fine dustwrapper.
