Blind-stamped dentelle. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Tinted lithographic frontispiece. Engraved vignette on title-page. Decorative initials. Fascinating work on the History and Setting of the Bible. While describing the various districts of the Holy Land and noting their ancient sites, their past history, and their present state, the author has sought to gather at every step contributions towards the illustration of the inspired text from every local source. This fascinating work is profusely illustrated with 1 large colored fold-out map, 1 fold-out plan of Jerusalem and 12 exquisite tinted lithographs (including frontispiece) and numerous b/w in-text and full-page illustrations. Age-wear on binding with rubbing along edges, joints and on corners. Gold lettering and tooling partly faded on spine. Calf partly cracked along spine. Ex-libris of previous owner on inside of front board. Minor and sporadic foxing throughout. Binding in overall good-, interior in very good condition.
