About This Item
London: Sampson Low, Marston & Co. Ltd., 1896. 3rd Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. The author. 12mo, pp. xix, 204, original gold boards with black lettering and design, rubbed to the extremities but quite bright, spine dulled, interior with 'Sample Copy, with the publisher's compliments' stamp to title page, hotel name to following page, fold out map, with some foxing and small tear near hinge, just before index, some toning and marks throughout but very largely clean, binding tight. It would appear from the number of copies carrying the publisher's compliments stamp and additional provenance that many of these were distributed to hotels in Britain. The author was an illustrator with the Illustrated London News and an adventurer whose travels took him as far afield as South Africa, Western Australia and Siberia. He was a special war correspondent during the First World War, reporting from the Italian front.
