About This Item
Here is a very rare and unusual book of poetry on flowers, detailing sentiments and symbols associated with certain flowers. Each poem begins with the name of a flower, followed by the sentiment or symbol it represents, and then closes with a poem on that flower. The book's preface claims that the symbols attached to each flower come from old sources and have been established by popular acceptance. It has always been true that the connection between poetry and flora has been natural, and this book belongs where the two meet. Good Condition. Brown cloth with gilt decoration to front board and spine. Chromolithographic title page. Both hinges are lightly cracked casuing boards to be slightly loose. Binding is somewhat shaky. Pages are moderately tanned and foxed with some light staining to front free end paper. Boards have some notable wear with splits to spine edges, crushing to spine ends and bumping to corners casuing some fraying. Gilt remains bright.
