Hangö, Finand: Hango?-bladets tryckeri, 1930. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. Very Good. An extremely rare pamphlet published in Finland by the Swedish-speaking supporters of Finland's fascist/pro-Germany political organisation, The Lapua Movement. The Swedish title translates into English as, "The Lapua movement, its origin and development, its aims and possibilities: Finland's Swedish population and the Lapua movement". Stapled wrappers, pp. 23. The Lapua Movement was a brutal anti-communist organisation which sought to elevate the "White" principles of the earlier civil war, including, Anti-communism. Lutheranism, and Finnish nationalism. Initially it attracted sympathetic support from prominent members of the establishment but its increasingly violent activities - not least the kidnapping and murder of Social Democrat politician Onni Happonen - could not sustain this and the movement was ultimately outlawed after a failed coup-d'etat attempt in 1932. Extremely rare - I can find only a small handful of copies held by university libraries across Northern Europe - and this example is in excellent, clean condition. Sunned at the spine. minor marks to the wrappers, slight creases but otherwise VG condition indeed.

Description:
New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1969. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Lauren Ford. This interesting little book is excerpted from Churchill's A History of the English-Speaking Peoples. On 29 December 1938, Churchill wrote to his wife regarding his initial draft about this part of his history: "I have just finished writing about Joan of Arc. I think she is the winner in the whole of French history. The leading women of these days were more forceful and remarkable than the men." Profusely illustrated, this slim volume contains 17 illustrations by the distinguished artist Lauren Ford. Though 16 of these illustrations had previously been published as black and white drawings, this is their first appearance in color. The illustration on the dust jacket front cover and frontispiece is original to this edition. This little-known edition is scarce and thus missing from many collections. Many of the copies that do come on the market are ex-library with attendant flaws, very often including library stickers or…
