Play about Joan of Arc by this important modern French writer, translated by Christopher Fry, who is himself a well-known and respected playwright. Later adapted for the stage by Lillian Hellman and produced with Julie Harris in the starring role. 103 pp preceded by a note that appeared in the program of the original French production: "The play that follows makes no attempt to explain the mystery of Joan."

Anouilh seems to claim in the introduction that it's intended mainly as entertainment, but it does add historical insights unavailable elsewhere (as far as I know). For example: People like to talk about Joan as one of the inventors of nationalism, but was she also one of the inventors of humanism?
