About This Item

Lark Rise to Candleford is a trilogy of semi-autobiographical novels about life in the English countryside at the end of the 19th century. They were written by Flora Thompson (1876-1947) and first published together in 1945. They have since been adapted for the stage many times and, in 2011, were produced as a TV series by the BBC. The stories are a heartwarming portrayal of country life at the close of the 19th century. This story of three closely related Oxfordshire communities - a hamlet, the nearby village and a small market town - is based on the author's experiences during childhood and youth. It chronicles May Day celebrations and forgotten children's games, the daily lives of farmworkers and craftsmen, friends and relations - all painted with a gaiety and freshness of observation that make this trilogy an evocative and sensitive memorial to Victorian rural England.

This copy is unread and pristine.

Published by Cresset Press London (div Century) in 1989. 223 pages packed with color illustrations.

The dust jacket is perfect and is unclipped. The book, which is printed with the same image as the dust jacket, is also perfect. There are no marks of any kind in it or on it. (In the photos, the pages look a little yellow—they aren't, that's the light.)
