Paris: Alphonse Lemerre, 1872. First edition. 103 pp. Bound by David in near-contemporary 3/4 blue morocco over marbled boards, original wrappers bound in. Wrappers chipped with 2 inch loss to front wrapper not effecting the text, back wrapper chipped and foxed, but complete, foxing to the text, else near fine. First edition. 103 pp. Based on Daudet's own nouvelle (1869), this dramatic piece included music by George Bizet. The latter went on to write a successful symphony of the same title.
