Paris: Vanoest, Les Editions d'Art et d'Histoire, 1948. First edition.. A bright and clean copy in an attractive binding in near fine condition.. Pp. 255; 94 full-page photographic plates with 271 individual figures. Later black cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, green marbled endpapers, 4to. In 1900 Parmentier was appointed by the École Française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) to study and restore monuments of the Cham in Vietnam. Later, he participated in archaeological excavations at M? S?n in 1903-1904, and at Duong Dong and Chanh Lo in 1905 In 1908 he began preparing a program for the conservation of Angkor Wat. He later worked in Hanoi and in Laos. Parmentier is considered the honorary head of the archaeological services of the École Française d'Extrême-Orient. This volume documents his career and discoveries. Small Vietnamese name sticker on the title page, no other ownership marks.
