San Francisco: The Westgate Press [Printed by the Grabhorn Press], 1931. Hardcover. Very good +. Unnumbered limited edition of 475 copies, octavo size, 124 pp. This edition of de Russailh's tales of his time in San Francisco was printed by the Grabhorn Press, one of the most highly renowned private presses in America, run by brothers Edwin and Robert Grabhorn during the twentieth century.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in marbled boards with green suede spine, orange leather spine label with black lettering, seven contemporary fascimile lithographs with one used as frontispiece, reproduced from originals and insert on folded blue paper, one fascimile pamphlet inserted; fascimile of Paris retailer on pastedown, vintage bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown, manuscript fills two-hundred and eleven pages, but this volume contains a translation of only the last fifty, the author's experiences in San Francisco; set in Elzevir linotype on machine-made paper, 124 p. unnumbered, limited edition of 475 copies.

___CONDITION: Very good plus overall, with the green suede colour deep and true, a square, strong text block, solid hinges, and entirely free of prior owner markings; the head and tail of the spine and the spine label have some wear, some soiling to the bottom of the front board, top front corner is slightly bumped.

Introduction by Crane. Reproduction of period lithographs on fold-out pages and a facsimile of the pamphlet "The Spirit of California" by de Russailh bound-in as issued. This copy inscribed by Edwin Grabhorn to Francis P. Farquhar on a blank prelim page. "for Francis Farquhar from Ed Grabhorn." Marbled paper-covered boards; no lable on spine, Paris engraver's store sticker on front free endpage, offsetting on page with Jules Remy's facsimile note about de Russailh's arrival in San Francisco. Very Good condition. Farquhar was a conservationist, mountaineer, writer, scholar and honorary President of the Sierra Club.. Inscribed. First Edition. Hardcovers.
