Elegantly bound in unsigned full contemporary forest green morocco, heavily gilt extra, gilt and blind-stamped ornamental frame side panels, with insets of gilt floral elements and lyre devices, a.e.g. Engraved head and tail-pieces. Extremities rubbed, with short crack at crown of lower joint, bound without ad leaf, inner hinges cracked (but sound), some foxing and offsetting from images, yellow coated endsheets stained, otherwise about very good. First illustrated edition, with fifty-five vignettes engraved after designs by Turner, Stothard and others. Turner's "delicate and graceful vignettes, which are miracles of fine detail, seem fairly to float upon the page" - Ray. A uniform edition of Rogers's POEMS appeared the same year. RAY 13. William Heinemann Ltd. London. 1961. THREE VOLUMES. Reprint of the 1951 Edition. 8vo. (8 x 5.4 inches). Fine and clean set in the rare Publishers delux leather bindings of full red Morocco. Spines with blind ruled bands and lettered in gilt. Gilt stamped Author's symbol device to the front boards. Blue marbled endpapers. Top edges gilt. Each volume with a red silk page marker. Housed in a red cloth covered slip case with marbled paper lining. The spines are a bit rubbed and there are a couple of small scratches but overall this is an attractive set of this important collection. Only a few sets were issued in these publishers delux leather bindings and they seldom turn up on the market.

Compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt, including dark green dyed central dots. Elaborate floral centre design to boards with gilt tooling over green and fawn leather onlays. Floral corner decorations with green morocco onlays. Board edges with partial ruled gilt lines. Inner Dentelles fully decorated with gilt ruled lines and floral designs, surrounding fawn Moire silk centre pieces. Silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Spine just very slightly toned. A light mark to the top outer corner of the rear silk endpaper. Neat school prize label, from St. George's school Harpenden and dated 1913, to the front blank free endpaper and gilt coat of arms stamp to the front inner board but otherwise the pages are clean and bright throughout. A beautiful copy.

Printed on mold-made white Arches paper. Designed by Moses F. Carr. Some light soiling on about a dozen pages, otherwise fine. 27 illustrations on plates (eight of them two-page spreads) and a tipped-in color frontispiece.
