1911. Impressions and Tales. With Illustrations. London: G. Bell & Sons, 1911. 6 pp undated ads + 8 pp (printed in brown) undated ads + 12 pp ads dated Jan 1911. Original blind-stamped blue-grey cloth. First Edition, colonial issue, issued as No. 1000 of "Bell's Indian and Colonial Library." This is a collection of eighteen tales, including several of a science fiction vein (published on the same day as Smith Elder's domestic issue). The color frontispiece (for "The Coming of the Huns") is by N. C. Wyeth; the one other illustration (of the creature who is "The Terror of Blue John Gap") is by Harry Rountree. Also among the eighteen pieces are "The Contest," "The Last of the Legions," "The Silver Mirror" and "The Great Brown-Pericord Motor." The colonial issue consisted of two-thirds as many copies as the domestic, and some of those colonial copies were bound in leaded-paper wrappers (at 2/6) instead of this blue-grey cloth (at 3/6). Considerably scarcer today than the domestic issue, this copy is in near-fine condition (scarcely any exterior soil or wear, but there is foxing on the cheap wove paper, mainly at the very front and rear).
