Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran and Co. for The Crime Club, 1931. Book. VG+. Cloth. First American Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Black cloth, lettered and with front cover publisher's device stamped in red, top text block edge dyed red (original to issue). Modest shelf wear with slight binding lean, text block edges somewhat dulled by age. Front cover cloth shows faint irregularities, possibly the result of light moisture contact that has resulted in mild spotting or dye lightening, at worst a minor cosmetic blemish. Firm binding, clean interior. [viii],312 pp. Very scarce color illus. dust jacket shows wear but is still intact, rubbed with occasional small chips and assciated creasing along edges, modest loss at corners, 1/4" to 1/2" loss at spine extremities, bits of surface paper loss to front panel with 1/2" crescent of loss midway along front joint; now in archival mylar. The third novel, after "Meet the Tiger" and "Enter the Saint," to feature Simon Templar, aka The Saint, alternatively titled "The Creeping Death," "Sudden Death," "The Saint Closes the Case," and "The Saint and the Last Hero." About Saucony Book Shop
The Saucony Book Shop, located in the heart of scenic rural Berks County, epicenter of Pennsylvania German folk culture (our shop specialty), offers a full range of gently used, rare, and antiquarian books, with many volumes of scholarly merit and an unabashed emphasis on the quaint, the curious, and the utterly obscure. We make no attempt to be a general-service book shop. Our inventory is highly selective, individually chosen from among the hundreds of thousands of books to which we have access annually at auctions, library and estate sales, and through individual scouts and vendors. We do not handle material that does not meet our expectations in terms of condition or interest to our specialized, idiosyncratic customers. Despite maintaining a browsing inventory of more than 15,000 volumes, we have minimized our carbon footprint by maintaining our entire operation in a cozy ca. 1890 barn and lean-to adjacent to an historic creamery in rural Maxatawny Township. Our shop is available for browsing by appointment and occasionally, in temperate weather, by chance, so email or call ahead to peruse the eclectic selection gracing our shelves, or ask our ferociously over-read staff for recommendations.
