Octavo. xvi, 360, 6pp publisher's ads. 7 engraved plates, 18 text engravings, folding coloured map in rear pocket; vii, (1), 346, 20pp publisher's ads. 14 engraved plates, (including 3 litho reproductions of Livingstone's journal, one in colour), 6 text engravings, folding coloured map. Original decorative cloth, gilt to spines and upper boards, blind tooled border to boards. Uniformly sunned to spines. Pages untrimmed. Original endpapers. Occasional light spotting, toning to outer exposed verso panels of pocket map. Map would seem to have been rarely taken from its pocket, with no tears, wear or misfolds. Lightly rubbed to extremities. A handsome set, with no inscriptions or annotation.
David Livingstone (1813 - 1873) African missionary and explorer. Livingstone was buried in Westminster Abbey on 18 April 1874. A black slab in the centre of the nave in the Abbey marks his resting-place. ODNB.
Horace Waller FRGS (1833 - 1896) Anti slavery campaigner, missionary and close associate of David Livingstone and Gordon.
