About This Item
Boston, MA: Little, Brown and Company, 1988 Little, Brown and Company, Boston, MA. 1988. Hardcover. 9th Printing by Line Number. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a remainder mark on the textblock top. Book Condition: Near Fine; slight shelfwear to board and text bottoms. DJ: Near Fine; NOT Price Clipped ($24,95); slight bumping to head and tail. Black cloth boards and spine with gilt title in red shadowbox; embossed lions on front board. Chronology for endpapers. 756 pp 8vo. This is the second volume in Manchester's three-volume biography of Churchill. In this book the author challenges the assumption that Churchill's finest hour was as a wartime leader. He feels that the prewar years were his true test as he stood alone against Nazi aggression and the British and French pusillanimous policy of appeasement and allowing Germany to rearm to serve as a bulwark against the Soviet Union. This book gives an entirely different look at the beginning of WWII in Europe and its reasons for the illogical alignment of the Soviet Union with Germany. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
