London, Batsford, No date (1942) 1st. Large Hardback, Size 9.75 x 7.5 inches. Bound in original red cloth with gilt to front and spine, in illustrated dustwrapper. In very good condition with very good dustwrapper (DW edges rubbed with some small tears, spine tanned, some darkening and handling marks. In protective sleeve.) Cloth clean, some light foxing to endpapers, Two nice private bookplates on front endpapers. Loosely laid original order form. Some minor handling marks to pages else a very clean and tight copy. 80pp, 22 text ills by Rex Whistler (2 colour, some full-page). A short story recounting with acerbic wit, and appropriate accompanying illustrations by Rex Whistler, the last days of Uptake, a fictional eighteenth century country house of the grandest kind, occupied by two elderly aristocratic sisters and by their even older servants.
