Mid to late 1700s. xxxvi, 156pp. Contemporary full calf, edges decorated in gold, spine decorated in gold and with leather label lettered in gold, marbled edges, marbled endpapers. A collection of aphorisms on morality with sections on the obligations of man, passions, women, differences among men, and the obligations of society. The book became one of the best selling titles of the era and had numerous translations and editions. Probably translated into Italian by Luigi Guidelli. Wear to extremities, rubbing to covers, label on the spine partially torn. Internally very clean with very mild scattered foxing. A very good copy. In the Italian language. Uncommon. ; 12mo.
