London: George G. Harrap & Co Ltd. Green cloth with very bright gilt titles and decorations; top edges gilt; illustrated endpapers. Eight color Arthur Rackham plates (including frontispiece). Interior and plates are clean, bright, and unmarked. Page edges lightly darkened with age. Previous owner's attractive bookplate on front fixed endpaper hidden under front DJ flap. Dust jacket panels/spine are darkened but cover color illustration looks good. DJ is chipped at edges with 1/2" out at top of spine. DJ looks good in mylar protector. Solid binding. A very nice copy . Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1928.

Synopsis

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a famous short story by Washington Irving that was published in 1820 in his collection, The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. It tells the tale of Ichabod Crane, a poor school teacher who falls in love with a lovely girl in town and plans to court her despite his rival for her affection, Brom Bones.  After rumors of the Headless Horseman start, things get more complicated...
