Oxford: Thomas Wood at the University Printing House, 1738 HC, small 4to, marbled paper over boards, 58 pages with 2 engraved folding plates, both from designs by W. Green and engraved by G.Virtue Sculp. Moderate overall wear to covers, leather spine and corners scuffed with loss of text to spine, marbled paper peeling from back cover, occasional foxing throughout but for final page 57/58 Postscript, which is heavily foxed, new end papers. Of historic value, being the first serious inquiry into the origin of the White Horse in Berkshire. Engraved plates are lovely; one of them shows the white horse. This is the scarce First Edition.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket.
