The book is individually paginated  each era the pagination starts again:  Early and High Renaissance, Late Renaissance and Mannerism, Seventeenth Century, Eighteenth Century, then Letters of the Great Artist from Blake to Pollock, again the various time periods are individually paginated:  Early Nineteenth Century Mid-Nineteenth Century, Impressionism and After & Twentieth Century. Introduction by author, notes to the plates, sources and references and index. The text is illustrated with both colour and reproductions of artists and their work. Red coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. The title says it all  letters from 1425 through to 1951 by artists. Softening of the back strip edges and rubbing of the book corners. Some rubs and stains to the book panels with fading of the back strip. Light tanning of the text block edges with age toning of the pages. Offset tanning to the end pages. First edition of the work in this format and binding, and/or set or series.
