Condition: VERY GOOD book / VERY GOOD jacket: ex-library (stamp on front endpaper states a "surplus duplicate at the Library of Congress"; there is also a library bookplate on the front paste-down from North Troy, NY, a pocket and date due slip on rear endpapers, a "discard" on front endpaper, some tape residue on covers, but no other library markings), a stamp on the series page reads "Compliments of Richard W. Mallary, Member of Congress", some light sunning to the board edges, a small brownish stain on fore edge that bleeds through about half the book leaving a tiny spot at this fore edge margin, another tiny stain to pgs 21-25 at the bottom edge; the jacket has light edgewear with faint creasing to the spine head and tail and along spine folds, price is intact. A nice copy despite the library stamps, interesting though they be.... (and proof of how books travel the country...) The author penned these "fictitious" letters as dictated to her by her mother Emma Just to her father in England, in order to tell the story of her pioneer life in the Idaho Territory on the Blackfoot River during the 1870s-80s. This edition has an introduction to explain the format and history of these letters.. Revised edition. Hard Cover. VG/VG.
