Freshly translated by Catulle Mendes from the manuscipt of Saint Wolfgang this Gospel is copiously illustrated by the symbolist painter, Carlos Schwabe, with 16 full page beautifully coloured engravings and art nouveau decoration framing the text on each page. Full polished calf binding, front cover with embossed illustration, bevelled edges. Spine a little worn. A few minor finger-marks inside, but a well-preserved hardbound copy of this rather scarce edition ** Belles illustrations en couleurs style 'art nouveau' de Carlos Schwabe, dont 16 planches hors-texte et des très jolis encadrements du texte à chaque page. Reliure plein cuir marron avec illustration encrusté au premier plat; dos un peu passé, réparé aux coiffes. Petite déchirure (1 cm.) au bord inférieur de la page de justification. Quelques infimes salissures ci et là, mais bon état pour ce beau livre peu courant, les illustrations de Schwabe bien réussies.
