Raised bands and decorated bands; gilt author and title in upper panel. Collagtion: [2], xlix, [1- Colophon], 96 pp. (74 lv.) Imprimatur in text (c10). Half-title and title pages are present and have embossed monogram near fore edge, possibly Charles Berolzheimer s. Engraved frontispiece is portrait of Torricelli after Pietro Anichini. Printer's engraved device on title, 3 small text woodcuts, woodcut head and tail pieces and initials. Minor staining to edge of page.

First edition of Torricellis's twelve unpublished lectures delivered to the Accademia della Crusca, the Studio Fiorentino, and the Academy of Drawing. Bonaventuri's preface contains a biography of Torricelli and a good overview of his work; it also reprints Torricelli's letters on the barometric experiment (in response to Ricci's concerns -Norman). Provenance: This copy had been given to Charles P. Berolzheimer in 1977 at Stresa Italy by Dott Renato Candela. Evangelsita Torricelli was Galileo's most distinguished pupil...
