Billed as the CRIME OF THE CENTURY in 1924, the author and Richard Albert Loeb with Clarence Darrow representing them as lead counsel were convicted of the kidnapping and murder of a 14-year old boy. They were sentenced to Life imprisonment for murder with an additional 99 years for Kidnapping. Leopold was paroled in March 1958 and relocated to Puerto Rico to accept a medical position. His intentions for writing this book were seen by some as more self serving than altruistic. This book is a hardcover (1958,c.1957,1958) in gray boards with black and gold gilt tiles to spine, DJ with price $5.50 protected in clear book jacket cover, first edition as stated, inscribed by author to Assemblyman Samuel Spiegel dated April 1958 Castaner Puerto Rico on FEP, 381 pages with browning to inner hinges, dust tone to top page deck, spine on DJ is missing
