London: Reeves and Turner, 1884. First Edition Thus, with Preface by A.H. Bullen. Two volumes in contemporary half morocco and marbled boards, raised bands, gilt, top edge gilt, marbled end papers, the small bookplate of Herbert M. Allen, Cambridge front paste downs. Near Fine, light rubs at corners and raised bands. Paltock's classic imaginary voyage, originally published in 1751, this edition especially desirable for Bullen's reviews of the history of its writing, publication, and its influence on later writers like Dickens, Hunt, Lamb, Coleridge, et al. After creating this wonderful world of winged women, exotic creatures, and fanciful civilizations, Paltock tried his hand at a similar work featuring a dog-bird ( see Bleiler) but for some reason it never took off. Bleiler, p.162. . First Edition Thus. Half Morocco. Near Fine/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Westport, Connecticut, U.S.A.: Hyperion Pr, 1974. Minor edge and corner wear, lightly scuffed and scratched, spine is lightly creased, some shelf wear, ex-library with the usual library markings, overall a nice used copy! White wrappers with maroon lettering. 338 adventure-filled and magical pages nicely enhanced by black and white illustrations! "In one of those bright racy essays at which modern dulness delights to sneer, Hazlitt discussed the question whether the desire of posthumous fame is a legitimate aspiration; and the conclusion at which he arrived was that there is 'something of egotism and even of pedantry in this sentiment.' It is a true saying in literature as in morality that 'he that seeketh his life shall lose it.'." ---- from the Introduction.. Reprint. Trade Paperback. Good. Illus. by Edward Bawden. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
