About This Item

Morris-Town [NJ]: Printed by Henry P. Russell, 1803., 1803.. Good. - Octavo, 6-1/2 inches high by 4 inches wide. Hardcover, bound in full contemporary 19th century calf, titled on a black leather label on the spine. The covers are rubbed and scuffed and the title label is heavily chipped. (x), [1] - 172 pages. The front endpaper is heavily chipped with a large piece out from the bottom edge. Crude annotations are penned on the front and rear blank leaves with a few words from the title penned along the top of the title page. There is scattered foxing and light staining throughout with occasional creases or chips to the corners of a few leaves. Good.

This book is most often represented as being a translation of a work by Louis Dubroca. However, the French research organization "Fondation Napoleon" writes the following: "This extract is taken from the translation of a biography of Bonaparte written by a contemporary writer, Charles-Yves Cousin d'Avallon in 1802. The biography was translated into English and published the same year."

This American edition is rare. [Shaw & Shoemaker 4114, attributing the book to Dubroca.]
