Prior owner's name inked at FFEP; toning at front endsheet; interior else clean, pages bright and unmarked. Laid-in at front endsheet are several browned newsclippings and a signed letter to the previous owner from Orson Desaix Munn, editor of Scientific American, on Scientific American letterhead.

Black Bindery tape used on front hinge inside front free endpaper. Rear hinge is fine. Evenly yellowed pages, rubbing to grey cloth boards and first 20-30 page edges due to front hinge repair. Some fraying to cloth edges, corners, foot and head of spine. Overall not a bad copy at all, sounds much worse than it is - much better than Good, thus VG- for this hard to locate title. .

This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Has small bookworm hole affecting the upper right corner of pages 23- 83, completely out of the way of any text and only about 1/2 inch in depth. Missing page corner as depicted, affecting the first front illustration page, affects a small amount of caption text, and the edges of 2 photos.
