This copy was donated to the New Hampshire Historical Society and bears their book plate (with donor name) on front pasted endpaper. This was a non-circulating copy and has only a few library markings: catalog number on front free endpaper, blind embossed seal on title page and remains of label at base of spine. Bit of light foxing to engraved frontispiece (a view of Montgomery's residence, The Mount) and engraved title page, otherwise pages clean and supple. Bound in hardcover of dark brown paper over boards with blind stamped decoration to both boards and spine; title gilt-stamped on spine. Cover worn at spine ends and corner tips but is clean and sharp. Binding and hinges firm, intact and straight. The life of the popular Scottish-born poet and hymnist (1771-1854). 5 x 8". x + 416 pages plus 16-page catalog of the publisher at end of book.. First American Edition. Hard Cover.
