Condition: Vol I - Poor; missing piece of top of the spine. Wear along the edges. Interior is clean. 388 pages.
Condition: Vol II - Fair - wear to edges and along the top of the spine. The Interior is clean other than a light pencil mark of the previous owner. 403 pages.

The binding is still tight. Sporadic foxing.

Bookbinder stamp of Cedric Chivers, Bookbinder, Bath.

Chivers is credited with introducing the card index into public libraries and to British business life. A bookbinder, he worked to raise the standard of library binding and invented the 'vellucent' binding style. As mayor of Bath, he increased the city's prestige by providing sumptuous entertainment for important associations, learned societies and conferences.
