FIRST UK EDITION (1961 - dated from British Library acession date, 1946 is the USA copyright date printed on reverse of title page), 8vo, green and cream boards with footprint pattern to covers, top edges brown, colour illustrated endpapers, 372 pages plus (1). 8 colour plates and black and white text illustrations by the American artist Lynd Ward. No inscriptions, a Fine clean crisp copy in near Fine DUSTWRAPPER, not price clipped, a touch of wear to corners. First published in the U.S. with Lynd Ward illustrations in 1946. The Illustrated Junior Library series were all issued by Macdonald in the late 1950s and 1960s reprinted from the series published by the USA firm Grosset and Dunlap in the 1940s.
