New York. M. Walter Dunne. 1903. Attractively bound in 3/4 gilt ruled grain morocco and marbled boards. Gilt tooled spine compartments with elaborate fleural motifs. Gilt titles. Marbled endsheets. t.e.g. 8vo (6" x 9"). The Flaubert Edition which is Limited to 500 numbered sets of which this is number 334. Illustrated with illuminated chromolithographic Limitation and Title page and further by tissue-guarded duotone plates after original drawings by eminent French and American artists. A splendid opus of France's most masterfull story teller. This limited edition set was the first complete collection of the authors work to be published in English. Quite scarce. Spines and covers mildly sunned. Covers spines and hinges occasionally rubbed and mildly chipped. Mild chipping to two headpieces. Volume 4 presents an obvious repair at front hinge which has somewhat darkened that area ( covers well attatched). A Very Good, clean, attractive set.
