About This Item
n.p., n.d., 1893. 8vo, pp. [2], 16; original printed wrappers a bit spotted and soiled, else very good. On p. [1]: "Dedicated to Mother and Daughter. Charming original and perfect copy." The text is signed in print "M. R. W." No copy found in OCLC or COPAC. This slender volume contains one lengthy poem about one of the most celebrated stately mansions of East Sussex -- Brickwall, in Northiam, Sussex, where Queen Elizabeth I famously stopped and dined while travelling to Rye in 1573, leaving her shoes behind, at the request of the villagers, as a souvenir of her visit. The story is told in this pamphlet, and much else about the mansion, its residents, its paintings, its Egyptian mummy, its "squire," obligatory field sports, etc.
