About This Item
St. Andrews: Joseph Cook, [s.d., 1839 [4], 286pp. With half-title. A handsome copy in contemporary calf, gilt. Slight wear at head of spine, a little rubbed to extremities. A rare privately printed collection of romantic verse by Wedderburn Dundas, eldest son of General Francis Dundas (1759-1824), who had served under Cornwallis in the American Wars of Independence. Largely Scottish in outlook, and focusing especially St. Andrews (including 'Lines suggested by the view of the ruins of the cathedral of st. andrews'), other pieces included relate to the Napoleonic Wars and, perhaps most interestingly, 'The white man's grave'. With a lengthy preliminary note on 'the Indian wars in North America, consequent on the settlement of that country', it describes, in remarkably romantic terms, the landscape of a grave dug following a Tomahawk massacre. COPAC locates a single copy, at Glasgow. OCLC adds NLS, St. Andrews and Stanford. . First edition. 8vo in 4s .

Antiquates Ltd
Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
