About This Item
Here on offer is a very nice copy of Philip MacDonald's fourth book under his own name, The Link, a classic "whodunit" in the Crime Club stable, featuring his series detective Colonel Anthony Gethryn. This copy is a true 1st trade edition, 1st printing published by Doubleday, Doran & Co. in 1930. The dust jacket is protected from further wear by a Mylar sleeve.

The Crime Club was an imprint of the Doubleday publishing company, which later spawned a 1946-47 anthology radio series, and a 1937-1939 film series. Many classic and popular works of detective and mystery fiction had their first U.S. editions published via the Crime Club, including all 50 books of The Saint by Leslie Charteris (1928-1983). The imprint also published first editions in Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu series.
The Crime Club began life in 1928 with the publication of The Desert Moon Mystery by Kay Cleaver Strahan, and ceased publication in 1991. In the intervening 63 years, The Crime Club published 2,492 titles.

"Face-saver-in-chief to Scotland Yard"
"That was the reputation, little as he liked it, of Colonel Anthony Gethryn. He had an uncanny nose for crime—too uncanny for mere coincidence—and it seemed to be his lot almost wherever he went to find some deed of a violent nature occurring that needed his astute mind to helop the police out of a hole.
It was fortunate that when the body of Lord Grenville was unceremoniously dropped across the doorsill of the Moon public house in Samsford one hot August evening with a bullet drilled through his head Anthony Gethryn was staying with a friend nearby.
[Gethryn]. . . wondered what the silver sand was doing on the back of the murdered man's coat. From this clue winds a dangerous trail of tortuous compleexity and not until another murder and the frightful accidental death of a third person is the treacherous plot revealed."
The above text was taken from the dust jacket flap.
This handsome, well-kept copy would be a worthy addendum to your 1st editions library.
