FIRST EDITION circa 1867 (no titles on adverts later than 1866, inscribed Dec. 25th 1868), 280 x 190 mm, 11 x 7½ inches, cloth backed pale yellow boards, repeat illustration on upper cover, engraved frontispiece with 2 images and 19 large charming engraved illustrations (uncoloured) all of sweet children, happy, sad, shy, cross, reading etc., each with descriptive verse below, printed 1 side only. Boards a bit rubbed, lightly soiled and marked, corners worn and rounded, small chip to surface and small red stain to lower cover, small light stain to upper cover at lower edge, spine slightly worn at head and tail with tiny nicks to cloth, neat inscription on front endpaper, contents otherwise bright and clean.
