J. P. Skelly & Co., Philadelphia, Pa., 1871. Hardcover. Condition: Good. 85 pp. Last five pages and rear free endpapers scribbled in pencil. Front free endpapers and frontispiece is missing. Slight foxing typical of age. One steel engraved plate at page 72. Outer cover red cloth with medallion of publisher's initials on front and rear covers. Gold gilt on spine is mostly worn. The story was first published in England in 1867. The original 1867 version lists the other children's stories mentioned on the title page and identifies the author as Edis Serle. No other copy of this 1871 Philadelphia version has been found on the internet.
