First edition of this Japanese fantasy/fairy tale by John Luther Long, best known for his story, Madame Butterfly. 148 pages with eight photographs by W. R. S. Miller. Also contains sixty illustrations which are unattributed. Light fantasy detailing how the title character "became the Beautiful Pine Tree in the Garden of Prince of Don't-Care-What." Very good book in publisher's illustrated teal boards with red lettering. Some soiling to top edges of boards and text block, else fine and clean. Scarce jacket is nicely preserved with a small chip at front joint, head of spine. There is a bit of moisture staining at top corner of rear panel and some splitting at upper edges of boards, else complete.
