- "Pop up books and paper ephemera with movable parts can be one of the most interesting and delightful genres of all the book arts. Endlessly fascinating and diverse they are situated at the intersection of many fields. In a host of creative ways pop ups combine books and toys, books and artists, books and engineering, books and science, as well as books and excursions into the third dimension to name a few. This is a category of book collecting with a long history where unusual antique items in good condition are in high demand and can command a hefty price tag." (from Rare Books Monthly; [link removed by ])
This is an extremely rare and sought-after collector's book, in outstanding overall condition (see details below). See https://www.vintagepopupbooks.com/Red-Riding-Hood-p/a-6b.htm. Please look at examples of this book available on the web, and the prices they command.
Condition: Very Good overall, with a few secondary issues that we will note in detail here. Most importantly, the pop-up paper features on every page are intact, attached, undamaged, and fully functional. Binding is stapled and firm, except for a ~2.5" split at base of spine. Small scuff at upper right corner of front cover (see photo). Rear cover has a couple of faint crayon marks and a ½" tear at lower right. Interior pages are bright, with a couple of faint soil marks. Beautiful and highly presentable example of the pop-up genre, but we disclose all issues.
- "Little Red Riding Hood is a European fairy tale about a young girl and a sly wolf. Its origins can be traced back to several pre-17th century European folk tales. The two best known versions were written by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm. The story has been changed considerably in various retellings and subjected to numerous modern adaptations and readings. Other names for the story are: "Little Red Cap" or simply "Red Riding Hood". It is number 333 in the Aarne–Thompson classification system for folktales." (from Wikipedia)
- About this Book: "Bernard Wilmsen (1858-1948) was a German-born American businessman who in the late 1800s published the beautifully intricate and colorful tissue paper "pop-up" style books known as the "Triumph Editions". He also made a significant impact in the United States Christmas decoration industry." (See full article at https://www.vintagepopupbooks.com/category-s/1862.htm)
