Glasgow: James Brown & Son. 1924. 1st ed., octavo, pp.xv, 420, incl Index, b&w fronts, plates and plans, two folding plates, bookplate and bookseller's ticket (J.H. Lake, Falmouth) front pastedown, orig gilt titled cloth bds, rubbed, spine faded, prev owner's inscr to ffep (Arthur Willmore, October 5th, 1924) with a small 3 page hand-written letter to him from Basil Lubbock, Sandhills, Bletchingley, February 4, 1922, "I was very glad to hear that the Cutty Sark was safe in Falmouth - she must have had a dusting. I am writing a life of her & if you could get me any particulars of her run from the Thames, I should be so grateful ..." Also a second small 3 page letter from Lubbock, dated Feb. [19]26, referring to G. Romney Fox's "most interesting account of the 'Ferreira' and the snapshots", which had been forwarded to him by Willmore. (The 'Ferreira' was the name of the Cutty Sark during the years she was owned by a Portugese firm.) With small 2 page letter from Romney Fox to Willmore referring to accidents to the 'Ferreira': "She's developed into the type of unfortunate boat which always gives trouble [...]". Also includes newscuttings, two original photographs of the Cutty Sark and a postcard. Lubbock's account of the famous 'Cutty Sark', fastest of the tea (later wool) sailing clippers, with related letters from the author, photographs, and clippings. 1st Edition. Boards.
