The set is housed a Near Fine original black slipcase with red "Lord of the Rings" printed paper label. All volumes have sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. Pages are fresh, crisp, clean and unmarked. Condition of the dust jackets varies. The jacket on the first book is Good, with rubbing and a few small edge chips. The jackets on the other two volumes are Near Fine but for a faint ink stamp on the front panel of Vol. 2. Each jacket is protected by a removable clear-plastic sleeve. NO jacket is price clipped ($6.00 each). All three jackets have the "02/67" code at the foot of the front inner flap. SEE PHOTOS. All three books are the first printing of "Second Edition, Revised With a New Foreword by the Author." "Second Edition" and "1967" are printed on all three title pages, with "FIRST PRINTING W" so stated on each copyright page, with NO subsequent printings indicated. The set is uniformly bound in black cloth, gilt-stamped on the spines, and with a gold ring, eye of Sauron, and Elvish writing on each front cover. The eye on the first volume is decorated in copper; metallic crimson for volume 2, metallic purple on the third volume. Top edges of the text block are tinted to match as issued, i.e. copper, crimson, and purple. Complete with dust jackets by Robert Quackenbush, original slipcase, and folding map at the rear of each book. The maps appear to have never been unfolded. Hammond pp. 139-141. Oversize Hardcover.
