In original red cloth dust jackets, with gilt spine titles. Jackets have moderate shelf handling wear. Red cloth covered boards with intricate gilt decorations on spine and front. Bindings very tight. Minimal wear. Bookplates in both volumes. Top edges gilt, Vol 1 - 516 pgs, Vol 2 - 565 pgs, 8.25 inches. No date; Circa 1893. 51 tissue-guarded Photogravure reproductions of works by Charles L. Mitchell and Francis Frith. . Lorna Doone was made into a1951 American adventure film directed by Phil Karlson and starring Barbara Hale and Richard Greene. The BBC also filmed a version of the book in 2000.
Richard Doddridge Blackmore referred to most commonly as R. D. Blackmore, was one of the most famous English novelists of the second half of the nineteenth century. Achieving a close following around the world; he won literary merit and acclaim for his vivid descriptions and personification of the countryside.
Noted for his eye for and sympathy with nature, critics of the time described this as one of the most striking features of his writings. Blackmore, often referred to as the "Last Victorian", acted as a pioneer of the new romantic movement in fiction that continued with Robert Louis Stevenson and others.
