Lacking rear free endpaper. This gripping autobiographical work was written just nine weeks after the sinking disaster by one of its survivors, Lawrence Beesley. Beesley survived the Titanic by being on the Lifeboat 13 which was starboard. The lifeboat was not yet full when Beesley came near to it, and as there were no women or children in sight Beesley was instructed to jump onto the boat. After the disaster Beesley was urged by honourable lawyers and editors of newspapers to write an accurate and gripping account of the disaster for the public, who had understandably been ardently following the news of the sinking. Thus Beesley here offers an accurate and detailed account of the disaster. In the publisher's original cloth.
